Who can die from Covid-19? Scientists discover new invention
Written by SOT.COM.AL 18 Maj 2022
Scientists have conducted a study to identify the people most at risk of dying from COVID when treated in hospital. COVID-19 Disease Predictor (CODOP) will help to find out who needs critical care.
According to Sky News, the system uses 12 blood molecules which are usually collected in the hospital when a patient is admitted which means the algorithm should be easy to adopt by healthcare systems worldwide.
CODOP uses artificial intelligence as it can identify patients. He found that the algorithm can predict the survival or death of hospitalized patients with high accuracy up to nine days before each outcome occurs.
The study's lead author and lead author of the international project said the new variants, declining immunity and relaxation of security measures "mean we are likely to continue to see an increase in infections and hospitalizations".
The data were used from routine blood samples taken from nearly 30,000 patients at more than 150 hospitals in Spain, the US, Bolivia, Honduras and Argentina between March 2020 and February 2022.
