The director of the PIH stated in a television interview that since mid-August there has been an increase in cases of respiratory infections.

Tomini said that in the last week alone, 1200-1300 positive cases of Covid 19 have been registered, while there are no cases of flu, however, he added that the chances are that in the 2023-2024 season there will be a co-circulation of flu and Covid.

Since mid-August, just as you pointed out that you have noticed an increase in cases of respiratory infections, this increase has also been evidenced depending on the monitoring data from the PIH.

The data comes from 420 Health Centers at the national level and from all emergency centers that are at the hospital level.

The increase came in a progressive way, after the first week of August and subsequently reflecting in the first weeks of September.

Respiratory infections not only of influenza, flu or other viruses are intertwined and with clinical signs that resemble seasonal diarrhea, but also have complexity of clinical signs, which appear mainly in the pediatric age more visible than in adults.

Only in the last week we have a confirmation of Covid cases, 1200-1300 positive cases.

The epidemic curve of recorded cases fluctuates from week to week. Positivity is at the level of 28.4% of the total number of tested cases compared to confirmed cases.

No cases of influenza have been recorded so far.

Respiratory infections have common clinical signs, road, headache, sweating and with these signs we as a population cannot make the difference if we have flu or Covid. The difference is made by the doctor who differentiates between the most aggravated symptoms and laboratory diagnosis.

There will likely be a co-circulation of influenza and Covid in the 2023-2024 season.
