Alimehemti: Varant Omicron needs his time to move the Delta with at least 4 weeks, children pass it more easily

The Omicron variant is already dominant in 95 percent of cases, after a 4-week cycle of infections. It was warned that Omicron would have a higher transmitter than Delta and so it happened. Regarding the situation of the pandemic in our country, epidemiologist Ilir Alimehmeti also spoke in a television interview. He said that Omicron, the new version of Covid, needs some time to remove the Delta version. Alimehmnet stressed that Omicron needs at least 4 weeks. "In January we had not only the Omicron variant, but also the Delta. It takes his time to move Delta by at least 4 weeks. 4 weeks have passed and we now have 95% Omicron. If the BA.2 variant is not included, the curve will start to decrease ", said doctor Ilir Alimehmetaj. The number of infections has also started to decrease in students at school. The Ministry of Education reports that the cases have been halved, after a three-day break from school. However, according to epidemiologist Alimehmeti, this is not a real concern, as attention should be on the elderly and hospitalizations. "Hospitalizations in Covid hospitals are 25 percent less reported compared to a month ago when the delta dominated. Children pass it more easily and teachers are vaccinated. So we are not worried about the infection of these categories. If 50,000 young people are vaccinated, nothing happens. "If 500 elderly and unvaccinated are infected, the hospitals will be filled", added Alimehmeti. According to him, the addition of tests is the best method to really see at what point Albania is. He said that Kosovo is doing the same, which has a lower positivity of cases than our country, although there are more infections reported. "Kosovo tests 15 thousand, we 7 thousand. "Of course there are more infections, only 25% are positive, we have 31% positivity", he said.
