'He may have sent this email out of jealousy', journalist reveals

The "McGonigal" case has become the subject of recent discussions and debates in politics and the Albanian public. In the show "Open" on News24, the editor-in-chief of BIRN, Besart Likmeta, spoke about the testimony of McGonigal's ex-girlfriend, from which the FBI's investigation of the former agent is said to have started, as well as about the information published so far about this matter.

Likmeta said that we don't know if it was this indication that prompted the FBI to open an investigation against their former agent and spoke about other circumstances.

He further pointed out that Business Insider published an article a few months ago that showed a kind of request from the grand jury, or court, to provide documents and information that were connected between the Prime Minister of Albania, McGonigal and two people who are suspected to be Person A and Person B, Agron Nezaj and Dorian Ducka.

Likmeta: These are details reported by an American publication that interviewed Mrs. Guerriero, we as the Albanian media do not have to verify how true they are.

She may have sent this email out of jealousy, or a desire to get revenge on her partner, but we don't know if this was the clue that prompted the FBI to open an investigation into their former agent.

There are other circumstances regarding Agent McGonigal's contacts with Russian oligarch Deripaska, or persons connected to Deripaska. There was a statement to the Justice department from one of these people in terms of the contacts he had with McGonigal and some of the lobbying that was done. There was also a New York Times article that talked about how McGonigal secured an internship for the daughter of a former Russian diplomat with the NYPD and raised suspicions because she testified or told him. some of the officers there had access to FBI files. One of the police officers reported such a fact, finding it suspicious how such a young and foreign girl could have access to FBI documents.

She (Guerriero) had some kind of basic information that McGonigal was dealing with Albanian citizens, that he was traveling to Albania, and this is not entirely clear from the Business Insider article because Business Insider in this case is not that interested in the Albanian part, but it will show the origin where this type of denunciation may have come from.

Business Insider, the same journalist has published an article a few months ago that showed a kind of request from the grand jury, or court to provide documents and information that were connected between the Prime Minister of Albania, McGonigal and two people who are suspected to be Person A and Person B , Agron Nezaj and Dorian Ducka.

With the rule of thirds, we can assume that the person who may have given him this document was the ex-FBI agent's girlfriend.

This story is structured like a thriller. Considering the details that have come out, I'm sure someone in Hollywood is building a script to turn it into a movie. It is very rare in the US for such an agent to be involved in these types of scandals. You can count on the fingers of one hand the number of FBI agents of this caliber that have been arrested in the last 30-40 years.

Details related to adultery, money being exchanged in underground parking lots, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, Albanian secret agents, Russian oligarchs, I assure you someone will write a book.

Klodiana Lala: Undeclared trips, meetings with Albanian officials, lunches and dinners in different areas of the north, business also in Albania. All these make this story interesting. It is an ongoing investigation, more details may come to light. What we should be interested in is how a former FBI agent brought the entire Albanian government together, had lunch with ministers, with mayors, received the title of honorary citizen, became a shareholder of a studio.

Likmeta: The BIRN article was about lobbying for the money that DP paid to secure a photo with Trump, where a part is stated to have come from an offshore company.

We didn't report that it was Russian money because we couldn't prove it, but it was a climate in the US at the time where the media had an interest in linking everything to Russian influence. One thing has been overlooked, the most important thing that our prosecutor's office should investigate, is that he came to lobby the Albanian prime minister on behalf of an oil company. There is a suspicion that an accused corrupt FBI agent has come to our country to influence the Prime Minister.
