The explosions in the north of Kosovo, the police come out with an important announcement

The Kosovo Police has confirmed that today in the north of the country they faced several incidents, such as explosions and gunshots. These developments happened while they were assisting the officials of the Central Election Commission in the preparation of holding local elections.

"The Kosovo Police informs the public about the security developments in the north of the country that, today, December 6, 2022, in the municipalities of Zubin Potok and Mitrovica North, public order police units have accompanied the officials of the Municipal Electoral Commission to the offices of the commission municipal elections, which are located in the municipalities of Zubin Potok and Mitrovica North for the purpose of performing their legal duties and powers", the communiqué states.

The media in Kosovo write that strong explosions have been reported in the north. A facility where the Municipal Election Commission in North Mitrovica was working has been completely burned down. After the explosions, increased police forces were deployed on the Ibri bridge.

The Kosovo Police, according to official duties and legal authorizations, is continuously engaged in providing security, maintaining order and public peace, as well as undertaking police measures in accordance with the situation and developments throughout the country, including the developments in the North of Mitrovica.

The Central Election Commission (CEC), based on the Constitution and the laws of the country, based on the inter-institutional cooperation, has requested the Kosovo Police for assistance regarding the preparations for holding local elections in the municipalities in the north of the country.

On this occasion, the Kosovo Police informs the public opinion regarding security developments in the north of the country that, today, December 6, 2022, in the municipalities of Zubin Potok and Mitrovica North, the police units of public order have accompanied the officials of the Municipal Electoral Commission in the offices of the municipal electoral commission, which are located in the municipalities of Zubin Potok and Mitrovica North for the purpose of carrying out their legal duties and powers.

In the early hours of this afternoon, several incidents were recorded in some areas of Zubin Potok and North Mitrovica (suspected gunshots and explosions), but so far no injuries have been reported from these incidents, while it is reported that the protesters have demolished the offices of the municipal election commission.

The Kosovo Police continuously monitors and evaluates the security situation in the country and takes necessary measures to implement the law and the decisions of the state authorities of Kosovo.
