The Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, has reacted to the events that took place today in the North of the Republic of Kosovo.

Svechla said that today in the north of the country, masked individuals attacked municipal election officials and police officers with Molotov cocktails and shots in the air.

"The Kosovo police have already started investigations to identify and bring to justice all the criminals involved in today's attacks. The police will continue their engagements according to their mandate throughout the Republic of Kosovo for providing security, guaranteeing order and the rule of law," Sveçla wrote.

Elections are the basic right of every citizen in a democratic country.

The Kosovo Police, after accepting the request of the Central Election Commission, today assisted in the functionalization of the offices of the Municipal Electoral Commissions in Zubin Potok and North Mitrovica, in order to continue the preparatory process for the extraordinary municipal elections of December 18.

Organized groups with some masked individuals, Municipal Election Officers and police officers were attacked with grenades and shots in the air, to stop them from exercising their official duties.

Attacks such as this one today with the aim of blocking the electoral process are unacceptable. The organization of elections is a constitutional obligation, while participation in them is a right of citizens that cannot be violated by anyone.
