The tragedy of Gërdec/ What is expected to happen to the former minister Mediu today, the movement of the last minutes is revealed

At 14:00 this Thursday, a preliminary hearing will be held against the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, regarding the Gërdec tragedy. Journalist, Eni Ferhati reported that it is not known if Mediu will be in the session, as the Durda family who lost their 7-year-old son, will participate.

"Today at 2:00 p.m., a preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place regarding the request submitted by the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK), to judge Fatmir Mediu, in the capacity of the former Minister of Defense, on two charges, that of misuse of duty and abuse of duty in cooperation with military command staff, related to the tragedy of Gërdec.

In fact, this session was supposed to take place last week, but because SPAK prosecutors were not present, it was postponed until today, when family members are expected to be present, on the basis of which SPAK also started the investigations for this matter. Durda family mainly who lost their 7-year-old child in the Gërdec tragedy. It is not known if Mr. Mediu will be present himself, or if he will be represented by his lawyers", reported journalist Ferhati.

The case against former minister Mediu has been reopened after Zamira Durdaj, who lost her son in the Gërdec incident, reported him to SPAK.

Initially, the First Instance of the Special Court dismissed SPAK's request to retry Mediu, with the argument that all the legal deadlines for re-examining the case have passed and that there is no new evidence. The court reasoned that Mediu's lack of immunity , especially after 2019, has not prevented the prosecution from starting the proceedings.

Mediu was one of those accused of abuse of office for the 2008 event where Albania was shocked by the explosion of a military weapons depot in Gërdec, near Tirana.
