"It will have gigantic proportions and dire consequences," Italy warned after talks with Vladimir Putin.

"It will have gigantic proportions and dire consequences," Italy

New round of contacts between the West and Russia. It was during these months that it was French President Emmanuel Macron who established telephone contact with Vladimir Putin.
Now it is the turn of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi. This is what both governments reported, and after the phone call, the Italian sent a not at all good message: "The approaching famine crisis, which is already present in some African countries, will have gigantic proportions and terrible humanitarian consequences."

In a brief appearance before the media, Draghi has revealed the content of his conversation with the Russian leader. A conversation "to discuss the development of the situation in Ukraine and the efforts to find a common solution to the current hunger crisis and its serious consequences in the poorest countries in the world."

Among his demands, Draghi points out, was to do everything possible to unblock the situation of grain stuck in Ukrainian ports, on which the food of millions of people in the world depends. According to the Italian Prime Minister, this problem can be ended with a theoretical cooperation between Russia and Ukraine to unlock the Black Sea ports, where there are millions of kilograms of wheat. Draghi told Putin he would also speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the issue.

Both countries, Ukraine and Russia, are among the largest exporters of wheat. The Russian blockade of Ukrainian ports has compromised the shipment of these foods, generating a huge rise in the price of cereals, oils, fertilizers and fuels. The Kremlin is ready to make a "significant contribution," but to do so requires the lifting of restrictions on Moscow.

As Putin explained to the Italian Prime Minister, the amount of wheat banned is "not enough to solve the food crisis, the needs are greater, but I say it is important to export stale wheat to ports before." For this, however, Europe and the United States must take a step back in their measures against Russia.

The two leaders also spoke about the conduct of the war. The Kremlin reports that "Vladimir Putin reported on the ongoing work to establish a peaceful life in the liberated cities of Donbas. He spoke in detail about the steps taken to ensure the safety of maritime transport, including the daily opening of humanitarian corridors for the departure of civilian ships from the ports of Azov and the Black Sea, which is obstructed by the Ukrainian side.

Finally, Putin offered Italy a guarantee of an "uninterrupted supply of natural gas at contract prices."
