"The matter is still under investigation...", New York Times on McGonigal's allegations: He didn't work for the Russian oligarch when he was at the FBI

"The matter is still under investigation...", New York Times on

The investigative case for the former FBI agent, Charles McGonigal, has caused quite a bit of media noise in Albania as well. The former senior official was rumored to have met Prime Minister Edi Rama while he was in office. But in fact, the abusive schemes of Sali Berisha's top leaders were revealed afterwards.

In an article recently published by the prestigious American media, the New York Times, it is said that while former FBI agent McGonigal was on duty, it is not proven that he worked for the Russian oligarch, Oleg Deripaska. In our country, the opposition threw a series of accusations about McGonigal's corrupt affairs with Agron Neza, an Albanian-American businessman and former employee of the Albanian intelligence during the communist era.

The opposition addressed these accusations to Prime Minister Rama. But in fact, thanks to the investigations and the indictment of the American authorities, there is no mention of corruption or even of non-declaration of income by the former FBI official.

"There is no indication in the Manhattan indictment that Mr. McGonigal worked for Oleg Deripaska while still employed by the FBI. The case is still under investigation, and a parallel indictment in Washington accusing Mr. McGonigal of taking at least $225,000 in secret payments from a former employee of an Albanian intelligence service while still at the agency has raised questions about how compromised he may have been. he was the one in this case ", it is quoted in the article published by the American newspaper.

The former senior FBI official is being investigated at large in the US and Washington on two charges. The first is suspected of helping Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch under sanctions, to be removed from the list of businessmen sanctioned by the United States government.

While the second charge is related to the suspicions that McGonigal received 225 thousand dollars from the Albanian-American Agron Neza, to influence that a large hydrocarbon concession was given to a company managed by Shefqet Dizdari, who later became a partner business with Neza.

Shefqet Dizdari, with his profession as a lawyer, was elected a member of the Constitutional Court in 2012, when Sali Berisha was governing the country.
