What happens if Donald Trump is really arrested? Here are some of the scenarios

Written by SOT.COM.AL 20 Mars 2023

Donald Trump claims he will be arrested Tuesday on charges of illegally paying porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in 2016 to keep her from publicizing their intimate relationship.
If this actually happens, Trump would be the first former president to face criminal charges.
What is Trump accused of?
In 2016, pornographic actress Stormy Daniels contacted several media outlets offering to sell a story about how she had an extramarital affair with Donald Trump in 2006. After Trump found out what she wanted to do, his lawyer , Michael Cohen, paid her $130,000 not to go public with the story.
This is not something illegal. But when Trump reimbursed Cohen for the money, the bill was marked as payment for his legal services as an attorney. Prosecutors say this is falsifying business records, a felony in New York.
Prosecutors may even charge the former president with violating election laws because he tried to keep his voters from knowing he had an extramarital affair.
But, according to expert lawyers, the case is not so easy to solve. "It will be difficult," Catherine Christian, a former prosecutor in the New York District Attorney's Office, told the BBC.
Will Trump be formally indicted?
The decision will rest with New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg. He has impaneled a jury, which will decide whether the prosecutor has collected enough evidence to initiate the lawsuit and initiate the criminal case.
Last week, Trump's lawyers said the former president had been given the opportunity to go before a jury, meaning the investigation is nearing its end. But they said Trump's statement about a possible arrest was based on media reports and not on any information previously obtained by prosecutors.
What happens if Trump is arrested?
Trump's lawyers have said that an arrest would be standard procedure if charges are formally brought against him. That means he must leave his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida to appear in court in New York, where he will be fingerprinted and photographed after his arrest.
Such a thing would further increase the polarity of the American political system. Conservatives believe that a different standard of justice is being applied to the former president, while liberals see it as a matter of stopping lawbreakers, including those who hold the highest state positions.
