Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for a boycott of French goods, and compared Europe's treatment of Muslims to the way Jews were treated before World War II.
In a scathing speech held today in Ankara, the Turkish president said: 'You are exactly fascists, and you have links to the Nazi chain. 'Muslims are now undergoing a similar campaign against Jews in pre-World War II Europe.'
Tensions between Erdogan and Macron escalated after a few days after the attack on a teacher in France who was beheaded by a so-called terrorist after showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad to his students, Macron accused Islamists of being 'Thieves of our future!'
While Erdogan responded by saying that the French president needs an assessment of his mental state. Macron subsequently withdrew the French ambassador to Turkey.
The French president announced the closure of a pro-Hamas organization, the arrest of seven people linked to the teacher's murder, and announced he would close dozens of Muslim associations and expel 231 people allegedly linked to extremism.
Macron's statements have sparked nervousness in the Islamic world.
After a weekend of verbal attacks against Macron, Erdogan today called on European leaders to decide and end what he called Macron's 'anti-Islam' agenda.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked the French ambassador to go to his office and give explanations for the president's statements.
