The sudden Ukrainian attack on Russian territory in Belgorod has taken the conflict in Ukraine to another level. If until today the various components of the anti-Putin militias have appeared on the scene in certain episodes, after last Monday's operation there appears a certain coordination between the various groups, at least between the Freedom Legion for Russia and the Russian Volunteer Corps .In any case, whenever, in a year and three months of war, there has been an attack against Moscow and its loyalists, Ilya Ponomarev is always in the center of the scene. He is the former Duma deputy who voted against the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and then ended up in exile in Kiev. He is trusted by the "partisans" with press releases, and is the anchor of a news program that he himself created, serving as a "megaphone" for their every operation,
Attack on Belgorod
Ponomarev's Facebook account is a source of information on anti-Putin guerrilla operations. If something is going to happen, her posts announce it in advance. And the last case has proved it once again. It all started last Monday, when Ponomarev published a post in which he announced that Legion soldiers were advancing on Belgorod and that the blue-and-white flag was already flying on Russian soil, along with the flag of Kazakhstan. The posts were also accompanied by a video, which told the story of the operation. A little later, the world media all wrote about the attack on Belgorod. At the height of the attack, Ponomarev did two important things. He called the mission a "special operation" and announced that he would go live on his platform together with Roman Popkov, his eccentric friend. Ponomarev partially disclosed the primary objective of the operations: to open the eyes of Putin's strategists. The other goal, he said, was to create a piece of free Russia over which to raise the blue-and-white flag, distracting the Russian army before the major Ukrainian offensive.
Resistance to Russia
On Wednesday, May 24, while Belgorod was still being talked about, a coincidence happened. Secretary of the Defense and Security Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov announced that there would be new actions in the border territories and stated: "Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh and other regions cannot be safe, given the number of Russian citizens who are against the regime". A few hours later, again on his Facebook profile, Ponomarev wrote "Kursk, how are you?". The legion boasted that it conquered more territory in one day than Wagner did in a year in Bakhmut. Meanwhile, the great publicity of the operation will serve to attract new recruits. At the same time, another form of resistance is emerging: supporters of Alexei Navalny have been invited to take to the streets on his birthday, June 4.
