The Kosovo-Serbia agreement/ The White House reacts and makes a strong appeal

The White House has welcomed the reaching of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia on the normalization of relations, even though the parties have not signed the document proposed by the European Union.

"We welcome the agreement mediated by the EU and supported by the US to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia and urge the parties to begin as soon as possible the implementation of obligations", wrote on Twitter Adrienne Watson, the spokesperson of the National Security Council, that directed by Jake Sullivan.
Earlier, the American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, said that the United States will provide full support for the implementation of these obligations, "in accordance with our long-term efforts to advance security and stability for the people of Kosovo and the region."

NATO also reacted to the agreement, which, in unison with the EU and the US, urges the parties to start implementation as soon as possible. "We are committed to stability in the Western Balkans, including KFOR," wrote on Twitter the spokeswoman of the North Atlantic Alliance, Oana Lungescu.

On Saturday late in the evening, Kosovo and Serbia concluded with an agreement on the annex of the implementation of the European plan, which will be binding for both parties at the time of publication. But even though, after 12 hours of dialogue, the Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, came out with this statement, Kurti and Vucic have not signed the document.
On Sunday, the Serbian President said that he did not sign the annex for the implementation of the Agreement for the normalization of relations with Kosovo, "because Serbia is an internationally recognized state, while Kosovo is not". Therefore, according to him, an international legal agreement cannot be reached between the two countries. "No one can impose on Serbia the obligation to recognize Kosovo. Serbia can work on the implementation of the agreement, up to the red lines", he said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has emphasized after yesterday's meeting with Vucic that with the implementation annex, the "de facto" recognition of the state of Kosovo by Serbia has been made.
