Ukraine and the West have asked the European Union to sanction Hollywood actor Steven Seagal, for supporting the Russian offensive against Ukraine, "Russia Today" reported.
The Russian media have called their request unfair and that the EU should not sanction the actor Segal.
A coalition of senior members of the US Congress, MPs and Ukrainian parliamentarians has submitted a list of individuals expected to be sanctioned. The list was previously sent to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the EU's top diplomat, Josep Borrell, in late December.
The list includes Russian tycoons: Magomed Gadzhiev, Vladimir Lisin, Vladimir Potanin, Franz Klintsevich and Ksenia Sobchak. In addition to politicians and businessmen, Philipp Kirkorov, Igor Krutoy, Vadim Rabinovich, and the American actor Seagal are also on the list.
The 1990s Hollywood star, who has been a Russian citizen since 2016, was included on the list for expressing support for the Kremlin's military operation in Ukraine in April and flying to Moscow to celebrate his birthday. 70 with associates of President Vladimir Putin, whom he called a "great world leader".
Segal has acquired Russian citizenship since 2016, having always shown support for Russia and Putin. He was even invited to the 70th birthday of President Vladimir Putin, after calling the latter a "great world leader".
In August, it was reported that the actor was working on a documentary about Kiev's war against the Donbass republics, which have since joined Russia after holding public referendums.
