The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, refused the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to be present at a joint session, where he would give a speech.
"What they asked me for was a joint session. We don't have time for a joint session. So, I did exactly what I did with the prime minister of Italy or Britain," said McCarthy.
It comes as members of Congress remain divided over aid to Ukraine.
The prestigious media CNN writes that McCarthy also avoided being seen in public with Zelensky. He denied official photographers access to the room where House leaders met the Ukrainian president, the source added. But he took pictures with Zelensky during a closed-door meeting, and a source shared photos from the room with CNN.
