A 23-year-old Croatian footballer, Robert Peric-Komsic, has decided to interrupt his career to donate 70% of his liver to his mother, who is suffering from a serious illness, thus saving her life.

 "Everything went very well, both the operation (which was done in a specialized clinic in Istanbul) and the recovery. Thanks to God, we are both well now and my mom has finally got a new life after 13 years of hard struggle. ", said the youngster - who plays for Cibalia, a Croatian team, since 2020 - local media reported.

The operation dates back to March. Now the young man's liver is regenerating. Soon the 23-year-old will be able to return to the game. But this happy ending was not so obvious: "I had a completely clear picture of the danger, but at that moment I was not even thinking about my football career. I had a clear mission: To make my mother feel good. Everything else was secondary," said the footballer.

"The risk was great, her life was in danger. It was a matter of days. The moment I realized there were no other alternatives, I packed my bags and flew to Istanbul," he added

"The real heroine of this story is my mother - concluded Peric-Komsic -. She has fought so hard for the past 13 years. She gave me her life, I just extended it. I did what I believe anyone would do," says the young man.
