When lawmaker reporters arrive tomorrow at the U.S. Capitol building, there will be surprising surprises from the hundreds of National Guard soldiers sleeping today on the marble floors of the building.
The footage, which looks like a war-torn country, shows their shields placed next to their backpacks, and water bottles at the feet of officers, some of which are placed next to the marble statues of former presidents.
The images that are going viral online are just a fraction of the roughly 15,000 troops that have been deployed to Washington following last week's riots, and will remain there until the inauguration of new President Joe Biden.
Media say 2,000 National Guard members are already on Capitol Hill with heavy equipment and clothing.
While more than 6,000 have traveled to the capital and by Saturday are expected to reach 10,000.
"The National Guard has come to ensure the peaceful transition of power and the well-being of the Americans," Majority Leader Renee Lee told Fox News.
"While soldiers and pilots perform various shifts on duty, they also have intermediate periods before being placed in their posts. "Guard personnel are still coming to Washington and arrangements are being made to accommodate them."
