Eva Kaili, a PASOK MEP and vice-president of the European Parliament, has been expelled from the party following investigations by Belgian authorities into allegations of corruption. According to information, Eva Kaili is involved in the case of the corruption scandal of the European Parliament from Qatar. The MEP, who is protected by immunity, has been sent for a statement by the Belgian authorities, while her husband, Francesco Giorgi, was arrested on Friday morning.

On Friday, more than 15 investigations were carried out by the agents of the Central Office for the Fight against Corruption in Brussels and four people considered as suspects were arrested. Among them, Luca Visentini, newly elected General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, former S&D MP Pier-Antonio Panzeri as well as Francesco Giorgi, former parliamentary assistant of Panzeri, current partner of the S&D group and partner of Eva Kaili. In addition to the four arrests, police seized "around 600,000 euros in cash" as well as "computer equipment and mobile phones", the contents of which will be examined.
