Already in Putin's "hand", Belgium remains among the "4 roads"

Belgium has shut down a nuclear reactor, despite calls to reconsider the decision due to fears of power cuts this winter.
Located between France, which depends on nuclear power, and Germany, which depends on gas and coal, Belgium depends for half of its electricity demand on seven aging nuclear reactors operated by Engie, the French company.
The shutdown of one of the four reactors at the Doel plant, near Antwerp, is the first step in a 2003 decision for the country to completely phase out nuclear reactors by 2025.
In February, a reactor at the Tihang plant, 50 kilometers from the border with Germany, was also shut down, after decades of activists have demanded that Germany stop producing energy through nuclear plants.
Both of these reactors were found to have holes in some units in 2012, forcing authorities to take them out of service.
A political crisis has been sparked this month after the interior minister, Annelies Verlinden, asked to postpone the closure of the reactors, causing anger in the Green Party./REL
