"Live" images from the red planet are broadcast for the first time (Video)

The European Space Agency has recently broadcast historic live images directly from the red planet on its YouTube channel. The images, shared on YouTube, ESA's Twitter account with the hashtag #MarsLIVE, showed the planet in a way that had never been seen before.
The event coincided with the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Mars Express orbiter, a mission designed to take three-dimensional images of the planet's surface. "Normally, we see images from Mars and we know they were taken days ago," said James Godfrey, spacecraft operations manager at ESA's mission control center in Germany.
"I'm excited to see Mars as it is now, as close as we can get to a Martian present." Haven't we had "live" views from Mars before? According to the ESA, no. Often data and observations of the red planet are taken when a spacecraft is not in direct contact with Earth, so the images are stored until they can be returned.
NASA's Perseverance probe currently exploring part of Mars has captured new images that appear to reveal geological evidence of a fast-flowing river. The river was believed to "feed" in the Jezero crater, the bed of an ancient lake on the red planet.
Perseverance began exploring the interior of the crater after landing on Mars in February 2021.
