Total isolation for non-bank institutions is supported by the Bank of Albania scheme to stop loan interest rate abuses

Total isolation for non-bank institutions is supported by the Bank of Albania

The Albanian Banking Association has expressed its agreement on the control over interest rates on loans by the Bank of Albania. A few weeks ago the BoA proposed a new regulation, which aims to set a ceiling level of interest rates on loans provided by financial institutions to customers. The BoA itself indicated that this regulation is necessary due to the numerous fraud scandals involving some non-bank institutions, even in some cases in cooperation with commercial banks. Of course microfinance at the time came out against this proposal, but they did not find the support of banks in the country. Through an announcement published on the official website, the Banking Association has positively assessed this initiative of the Bank of Albania, saying that this will increase consumer safety. According to banks, setting an interest rate ceiling will prevent abusive institutions from lending to customers at very high interest rates. The Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) is acquainted with the draft decision on changes in the regulation of the Bank of Albania no. 48, dated 01.07.2015 "On consumer credit and mortgage credit" and considers that these changes are welcome. "The consultation discussion already started with the banking industry is positive, fully supportive and healthy for the strengthening of best practices in the lending process", it is said in the reaction of the Banking Association. Transparency increases

Among other things, commercial banks say that the changes contained in that regulation will improve the lending process to bring it in line with European directives. And most importantly, will increase the transparency of financial institutions in the country, which play a very important role in the performance of the economy and the level of income for their customers. The Association emphasizes that, all these mentioned and other changes introduced in the new regulation will stabilize the financial market in the country, which has long been facing corruption and high informality. "Based on the developments of the financial market in the country, transparency, protection of public interests, best practices in other developed countries, as well as increased care for the financial stability of the country,
