US actress Lisa Banes has died at the age of 65 after being hit by a scooter in New York, police confirmed on Tuesday.
Banes became famous with the role of Marybeth Elliott, Amy's mother in the 2014 film "Gone Girl" a psychological thriller by David Fincher.
She also appeared in movies like Cocktail and A Cure for Wellness.
Actor and director Seth MacFarlane led the homage, saying her death was "an extraordinary loss."
New York police confirmed to the BBC that Banes was hit by a scooter while walking through a pedestrian crossing in Manhattan on June 4th.
Suffering from a head injury, she was taken to hospital and then died Monday.
"The scooter then left the site, continuing north," New York police said in a statement.
"There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing." Banes's partner Kathryn Kranhold paid homage on Twitter.
Banes was born in Cleveland, Ohio and excelled in the 1980s in a variety of television shows and stage appearances on Broadway. But it was for her role as Marybeth Elliott, the mother of Rosamund Pike character Amy Elliott in Gone Girl, that she became known to a wider audience.
The film received four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Actress for Pike.
