Ajo ishte e vetmja vajzë që konkurroi në dhjetor 1944 dhe hyri ne janar 1945, në të parën shkolle të artit dramatik shqiptar, duke thyer te gjitha normat e shoqerise feudale dhe jo pa pasoja. Ishte vajza e vetme mes shume meshkujve, si p.sh.: Kadri Roshi, Naim Frasheri, Prokop Mima, Lazer Filipi, etj. Në 1946, është aktore profesioniste e Teatrit Popullor. Në karrieren e saj të gjatë, mbi gjashtë dekada, krijimtaria e saj artistike është e larmishme dhe e suksesshme dhe perfshin tre fusha: Se pari, si aktore e teatrit dhe e kinematografise, Drita numeron rreth 150 role, por duhet theksuar se mbi gjysma e tyre jane role kryesore, madje kryerole femerore te dramaturgjise boterore dhe asaj shqiptare.
