The surprising moment when the 73-year-old singer 'defeated' names

Bonnie Raitt was a surprise winner of 'Song of the Year' at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, dominating a category that featured a host of music stars nominated including: Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Harry Styles, Beyonce and Adele.

The song "Just Like That" by the 73-year-old singer left behind the songs "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" by Taylor Swift, "About Damn Time" by Lizzo, "As It Was" by Harry Styles, "Bad Habit" by Steve Lacy, "abcdefu" by GAYLE, "Break My Soul" by Beyonce, "Easy On Me" by Adele, "God Did" by DJ Khaled and "The Heart Part 5" by Kendrick Lamar.

The singer, born in Burbank, California, was amazed when she was announced as the winner and went on stage. "I'm very surprised, I don't know what to say," she said. "I don't compose many songs, but I'm very proud that you appreciate this. I am completely humbled."

Raitt was presented with the award at Sunday's show by the First Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden.

She also made dedications for the late singer-songwriter John Prine, who died of the coronavirus in April 2020.

Raitt described her win in the charged category as an 'unreal moment' in honor of the song, which she said was inspired by organ donors and the late singer-songwriter Prine.

Raitt also cited composers in her speech, describing them as 'the soul-digging, hardworking people who put these ideas to music.'

Raitt also won Best American Performance for Made Up Mind and Best Traditional American Song for Just Like That.

The winning night brought the total number of Grammys won by Raitt to 13, who has over 30 total nominations in her career.
