Onions may be considered a staple food in many parts of the world, but there is one country where their price is out of reach.

For almost a month now, onions seem to have become a luxury item in the Philippines. In fact, the price increase it has registered is such that it has already imposed on the meat. At the moment, a kilogram of onions in the Philippines costs about 10.15 euros, while a whole chicken can be bought for only 3.69 euros.

The price of onions is higher than the minimum daily wage in the country, which is calculated around 8.30 euros. What's more, what you may not know is that the Philippines is one of the largest importers of onions in the world, consuming more than it produces. They can be a staple food for Filipinos, but they are difficult to store due to weather conditions.
