Many people are accustomed to walking barefoot indoors even in winter. Scientists, therefore, give reasons to do even more as, apparently, there are various health benefits.

Researchers from Ithaca College in the US point out that the role of the toe muscles is quite underestimated, but crucial in terms of balance, correct posture and prevention of injuries and falls.

From the smallest muscles to the largest muscles along the entire length of the leg, everyone sends messages to the brain about environmental conditions. When these messages are not completed successfully, injuries occur because another muscle group is trying to compensate for the lack of communication. Shoes are often responsible for such results, as when we walk, run, jump, jump, etc., the muscles of the lower extremities absorb the impact force of the whole body. If the muscles of the lower extremities do not send the necessary information to the brain, the core muscles will have to compensate for this deficiency. Thus, they are overloaded and injury is likely to occur.

Thus, McKion and his colleagues recommend that we walk barefoot more often, in order to "practice" more of our body's interaction with the environment. "The more we walk barefoot, the better," says the professor.
