(second part)
The worst of populism is when populist forces and parties become strong in a democracy. And this is also a challenge. Why? - Because the populists radically criticize the social and political elites in power with the argument that they do not represent the true and actual will of the people, and even systematically betray it. On the other hand, the Populists claim that they know the will of the people and act according to their will. Every European state must find ways, ways and efficient strategies to face populism and populist forces. In today's high-tech times, when social networks and social media have gained tremendous power and taken galloping steps and also confused the minds and brains of people, populist parties are gaining the necessary ground, therefore, these social media should not be left in the hands of the populists, because they want to gain as much support as possible from the broad, often naive people. One thing is clear: As much effort as possible should be made to remove and remove the reasons for protest from the populists. Europe has had and has in these decades many cases when populist parties have come to power or have been a determining factor. Let's mention some of them:
1. The "Syriza" party of Alexis Tsipras came to power in 2015 in Greece after the deep economic crisis of the state debts and stayed until 2019. The "Syriza" party or the "Coalition of the Radical Left" is a left-wing populist party . It is a coalition made up of the new leftist post-communist party Synaspismos and ten communist, eco-socialist, Maoist and Trotskyist political groups. This party broke what is called in politics, the culture of consensus, which means that PASOK and New Democracy alternated power between them until then.
2. The "Fratelli d'Italia" party is a far-right, neo-fascist, radical right-wing nationalist party. Georgia Meloni, the leader of the party, is the prime minister of Italy.
3. The "Lega" or "Lega per Slavini Premier" party is a right-wing populist political party in Italy, led by Matteo Salvini, successor to Lega Nord. It is part of the leading parties in Meloni's Italian government.
4. Dansk Folkeparti (DF) or Danish People's Party, is a right-wing national conservative populist party in Denmark. It was founded on October 6, 1995. From 2001 to 2011 it was in a minority government consisting of Venstre and the Conservative People's Party. While between 2015 and 2019 the DF supported a minority government of Venstre, the Liberal Alliance and the Conservative People's Party as the second strongest faction.
8. Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) or Party for Freedom is a right-wing populist party in the Netherlands. In the parliamentary elections of 2006, she won 5.9% of the votes. In 2010 it increased to 15.5 percent, returning to 10.1 percent in 2012. In the 2017 general elections, it received 13.1 percent of the vote, which made PVV the second strongest political force in the Netherlands. . While in the general parliamentary elections of 2021 it became the third party in the Dutch parliament with 10.9%. She is against what she says is the "Islamization of the Netherlands" and openly calls to fight it. She also campaigns for curbs on immigration, for tougher action against criminals and against raising the pension age. (to be continued in the next issue)
