Spelling Congress and today's society

(On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Spelling Congress)

The long, difficult and arduous path on which the Albanian language in general and the literary language in particular has traveled gives you the legitimate right to occasionally evaluate how it is used, in what form and in what way it is realized , what space it has in today's Albanian universe. The Congress of Spelling also set this task in its Resolution, (vol. I, page 194, point 2, paragraph I) where it is quoted that "... the rules of spelling should be made, in the future, when necessary, appropriate improvements and additions". Started with the epitaph "one language, one nation" in 1968 by linguists, writers and the Kosovar intelligentsia, it received its "stamp" in its most important scientific gathering, in 1972, with the Congress of Spelling, where the Albanian literary was affirmed as a unified, standardized literary language, based on a "sui generis", as an inter-dialectical interaction between the literary Greek and the literary Greek. In function of its further crystallization, a number of scientific works and dictionaries of different types were created. We think that what gave a special and very important impetus to standard Albanian literature was the National Scientific Conference "Standard Albania and Today's Albanian Society". We are of the opinion that discussions about Albanian in general and that standard in particular are always fruitful and in a special way, when they are carried out by people with high scientific linguistic training, who know well the currents, schools and linguistic currents in Europe and beyond. In this view, after a several-year "battle" of a small group, linguists and non-linguists, who, in my opinion, only start from peripheral and narrow provincial reasons, some are even amateurs and we are convinced that they have cursory knowledge about the dynamics of standard Albanian, about the theories that are currently being developed and elaborated in various European universities, on the basis of created by Ferdinand de Sosyri, Noam Chomsky and enriched by many others over the years, became the initiators of a conference or debate about the standard of standard Albanian. We are of the opinion that only here in Albania there is some concept to deny the activity and scientific product of previous generations, by politicizing or giving insulting epithets that are not at all ethical, let alone scientific. Of course, our school, in all its sections, has played a great role for our pupils and students to recognize and use in all the multivalent activities of social life the values ??of our literary language, acquired for decades, but I still think that its role is insufficient, truncated and that this is connected with the programming of the Albanian language, with the rich problem, with the historical line, with the theoretical conceptions related to the unification of literary Albanian. The formation of all layers with the features of standard Albanian, we think that it is not complete, there is no detailed and elemental strategy or platform, which is manifested in all its polyvalent activity such as: avoiding the literary norm, using words of unnecessary foreign words, morpho-syntactic constructions outside the nature of Albanian, disrespect and amorphous mixture of its styles, lack of neuro-psycholinguistic concepts and practices, etc. We emphasize that nothing will be achieved without the decisive role of our school at all levels, especially in higher education, where it is necessary to improve the university curriculum and study programs. We are of the opinion that all the work and attention of linguists, teachers and leaders should be addressed in this area, and of course by studying in parallel, all its development, in all subsystems of literary Albanian, the problem that arises, as well as doing following the necessary improvements, which are the practice and norm for other languages ??around us. especially in higher education, where it is necessary to improve the university curriculum of study programs. We are of the opinion that all the work and attention of linguists, teachers and leaders should be addressed in this area, and of course by studying in parallel, all its development, in all subsystems of literary Albanian, the problem that arises, as well as doing following the necessary improvements, which are the practice and norm for other languages ??around us. especially in higher education, where it is necessary to improve the university curriculum of study programs.
