The Albanian mafia in the book of Bujar Sh. Hoxha "The Godfathers of Albania"
Written by Kastriot Kotoni 16 Gusht 2022
The books of the already known author Mr. Bujar Sh. Hoxha as "Crime, Anticrime", "Albanian Pluralism and State Security" added a significant, very interesting and current title "Albanian Godfathers". This multifaceted novel tells us how the saga of Albanian organized crime began and its structuring in the status of mafia organizations. Humanity begins literature with the "Epic of Giglamesh" and the legends of different peoples, then continues with the story of the Odyssey and the Iliad written in verse by Homer. From this globalist genesis, understanding and misunderstanding in cultural exchanges between peoples was born through storytelling. Nothing comes from nothing, - would be the axiom of any philosophy of modern times. When a type of folk narrative begins to be elaborated, the philosophy of life also begins to be elaborated. From the art of writing came the artifacts of history that we learn to this day. Thus, good and bad, beautiful and right, ethics and aesthetics and truth and deception, emptiness, ambiguity, implication, the eternal beyond or the eternal present, have emerged as elaborations of the human intelligence's ability to communicate with codes and signs through the language of symbols and expressive means of literary figures. That only art has the privilege to exhaust the idea through the imagination. Since ancient times, corruption and crime have not ceased to exist as one of the most widespread and acute forms that erode the foundations of state administration, which severely compromises the citizen's trust in the good administration of public values. This entry is not made to show erudition, but fundamentally to recreate the connection between literature and reality through the work of the author, as the first Albanian author who can be called a mafiologist (excellent connoisseur of the Albanian mafia). The art of the police novel, unlike other types of novels, has its limitations, but in the specific case of the novel entitled "Albanian Godfathers", I would like to say that it is a realistic novel of a dark gray world and sometimes with psychological pictures of psychology. of crime and why not psychoanalysis of crime. The author seems to have an order of the starting point of the events and this helps you to be stamped in that time and those events that really happened in Albania. There are hundreds and thousands of black chronicles and media news or shows devoted to crime in Albania. but a novel of this type from the hand of a man who has himself been a witness and involved because of his work in the fight against crime and terror, we have hardly read so far in Albanian literature. We remember that after the 1990s there are more than 5 fingers of this type of novels, especially since they were written by people, ie. writers who have blown the imagination more than the gross product of police materials, as the author Bujar Sh. Hoxha. It doesn't matter in which city or country the event takes place, but the important question for the reader is: "How did we come to this day that even in Albania there are mafia organizations?" Far from being a spectator, the reader becomes active, because he has reality that threatens him in all kinds of ways, that affairs are resolved with corruption and bribes and with political militancy and not with the right that belongs to you and based on meritocracy. There are no myths of criminals in this book, just as there are no myths of lawmen, but the struggle between them is a myth that really borders on the unbelievable. The servant of the state in front of the man of crime who has found ground due to the absence of the state. We remember the year '97, '98. Killing people like a butcher to achieve your profitable goals against the law as if you are in the jungle, this psychological puzzle has been carved into art by Bujari. The authority of the state in many aspects of this novel also has its history, so they are skillfully presented in front of a dedicated figure of the prosecutor and investigator or police officer, who work day and night to protect the life and property of the citizen. We have a lot of people immersed in the sin of corruption, the crime of terror, from the politician to the prosecutor, judge and police who use the cloak of the state employee in the service of the mafia. Someone can say that the book is too wild and we are saturated with topics from Albanian crime related to the most criminal and mafia organizations in the world. The first criminal and capobanda to appear in the first pages of the book begins his journey into the world of crime after a revenge of a relative. This, as in many cases, forces him to lead a secret life and in order to survive he needs an economic support. He creates a band of his own tribesmen and close friends whom he urges to be at his service. The thug sees himself as a capo gang and has the intelligence parameters to be quiet and secretive and imposing and for dirty work of a higher level than street crimes and hooliganism of banal violence. Meanwhile, his rivals have also emerged from the incubator of canon psychology and seek revenge for the lost man. The case at first looks like a ritual of canon codes, but in essence, the ego of the city ruler grows to take control of all drug, clandestine and arms trafficking, not forgetting prostitution. With the increase in the monetary base, criminal groups have offered their services to politicians of all stripes. From a man thrown overboard to Italy to hide, the capobanda comes into contact with the Italian mafia and receives the right instructions after passing several tests. The rival gang follows the relative's killer to the last den, but surprisingly a bait that worked for both sides sold them to the Italian mobster and this is where the saga of an Albanian mobster begins. "I love women", the situation of Albanian criminality is now different, that Albanian who killed and beheaded for the honor of his sister 50 years ago, today traffics his neighbor, his friend, his girlfriend for money, buys and sells them like in the market of things alive "Femra karem" is the new concept in Albanian literature. She joins the underworld for many reasons, not the least of which is without a role model. Integrations have both their pros and cons. The author has smelled as an anthropologist of crimes or as a psychoanalyst, that the first tendency to integrate with the mafia is in the nature of host countries to increase the ranks of crime soldiers. The mobsters are looking for people who are as desperate as possible and lacking in the future, so many Albanians also fell victim to the world of crime. The consolidation of a gang, already organized in detail with economists and mafia mentors, with highly specialized legal advisers and lawyers, up to the political orientation to prepare laws according to their interest, had copied the model of the Italian mafia. Shadow organizers and killers like butchers ready at any moment and in line for one, from policemen and police chiefs who are rewarded by bandits for information to judges and prosecutors who turn white into black, depending on the amount of money . Untangling the threads of a crime requires professional people with moral integrity, but also collaborators who respond to the demands of performing the duty honestly, this picture that for an ordinary reader does not feel from the first pages, but somewhere in the middle of the book by the writer Bujar Sh. Hoxha, who has depicted it with brushstrokes, so realistic to the point of pain, but also with unbearable sensitivity. Police and prosecutors massacred, blackmailed and undervalued and trampled by politics like in no other country are described as characters in this book. The judicial police investigator Tomi Arbana together with the prosecutor Adnan do not retreat, neither from the threats of criminals nor from the underestimation of politicians. There are tragic scenes in the courtroom when the mobsters start mocking Tom and Adnan, as if they had committed the crime and those who escaped punishment were the heroes. Corruption, this concomitant disease of capitalism, is eroding the morale of society. Injustice wins thanks to corrupt judges and prosecutors. People despair that they do not find justice and commit acts of self-judgment and then end up in the hands of the mafia, writes Bujari. Tenders and economic transactions begin to appear in the mind of the mafia that is supported by segments of politics. People of the four gangs are killed as if they were chickens. In search of traces of the crime, the professional Tomi Arbana manages to break down one of the gang members and turns him into a penitent. Repentant, the success of the famous Prosecutor Falkones, who has included in the list of his strategy, the evaluation of the contribution of justice associates, a factor for the fight against the mafia (Busheta Phenomenon). Falcone's first idea was the concentration of all forces against the Mafia and the specialization of the investigation accompanied by the use of the most advanced investigative technology instruments. The Albanian gangs with their hoods had instructed their soldiers about secrecy and threats about the consequences they would have if they spoke. But a man without a way out will benefit from every minute of his life and thus become a worthy collaborator of justice thanks to the professional work of Tom Arbana. Here the word of the writer merges with that of the professional, where even though many secrets of the profession are hidden, the psychological aspect of the repentant justice is given. Tom Arbana's professional art and honesty convince the penitent to cooperate against the crime. Now we have an integration of the structures of the Albanian state with international partners, so the fight against the mafia knows no borders. Transnational crime has also struck Albania and the fight against it requires contemporary forms and methods...but who will do it? Like Tom Arbana, Adnan and the policeman Bernard who face crime every day there is and always will be, even though the crime sends packages of tritol to the door of the house and threatens them with kidnapping children and blowing up vehicles with remote control mines. Just like in neighboring Italy and Latin American countries, we are experiencing realities that we had read in books and seen in movies, and these types of phenomena seemed far from us. One of the most evident problems raised in this novel is the connection between the political mafia and the media. The echo of court proceedings goes towards defamation of so-called ordinary criminals and not mafia terminology. The political mobsters representing the Genc Malaj and Poli Keka clans after much bloodshed managed to make peace with the order of the mafia across the sea. Tomi Arbana would be a victim of the hypocritical behavior of his bosses. In a surprising and treacherous way, without motivation he would be released from duty and thrown into the street unappreciated and unprotected. The portrayal of the political mafia in these 30 years from the head of the state pyramid, from ministers, deputies, mayors and businessmen, by the author Bujar Hoxha constitutes the novelty of Albanian literature. The symbol of the language of the characters is icy, sharp and deep. Today there is noise about the law of decriminalization and files, and with the help of the West, we are creating structures to fight the mafia and corruption, such as SPAK and the Bureau of Investigation. The book written with an incomparable skill, truth and courage by Mr. Bujar Sh. Hoxha is an alarm bell for the whole society. Saviano of the book "Gomorrah" has said his word. People, create your own islands against the evil of the mafia, because later they will curse us with the punishment of "Sodom and Gomorrah". Albania, as a small country, in addition to solving economic and political problems, has the primary priority of its image, because the connection with the mafia and organized crime brings water to the mill of those countries that do not want us well. Quite a few Hollywood films have the theme of the Albanian mafia as a tribal man who does not know the law, but knows the Canon. In order to face this media typhoon, a society must first react and put politics with its shoulders against the wall, or fight corruption and the mafia, or change the political and intellectual elites with a free vote. Albania cannot be a place of hypocrisy and cruelty.
