Their dreams remained dreams for centuries

Their dreams remained dreams for centuries

Every August, the Habilaj family in Vajze te Vlora remember with pain, but also with pride, the days when the two brothers Maliq and Lelo Hadër Habilaj, fell heroically at the head of the battles, during the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War. They were young, aged 17-19, but they were cut off in the middle in August 1944, 15 days apart in the city of Peshkopia and 15 km apart. It happens that a person during his life describes a long, almost endless journey, and this does not constitute any innovation. Sometimes this journey is interrupted prematurely, but this is part of human life and is not surprising. In the lives of individual people, it can happen quite differently. Called by the voice of the Motherland, they can ascend to the sky and burn there like stars, giving their light to the Motherland that gave birth to them. Age didn't matter to them, it did not matter the years left to live, which vessel had not yet begun, the very few years they have described, their lives did not matter. Their only motto was the voice of the Motherland, the freedom of the Motherland from the Nazi and Fascist occupiers, in the name of which they fled, gave their lives fighting heroically against the Nazi and collaborationist forces who had lined up on the side of the invaders. Their lives were interrupted in the middle, but eternally from heaven they, together with 28 thousand martyrs who have given their lives for the liberation of the homeland from the Nazis and fascists, continue to make light for their homeland for the following centuries and make us proud generation after generation. Such were the Maliq and Lelo Habilaj brothers. They were born and raised in a patriotic family, which for generations was actively connected with all the events and wars for the defense of the Motherland, becoming an active part at all times. The Habilaj family was one of the poorest families in the village of Vajze, they had a house with one floor, a piece of land where they made bread for 3-4 months a year, a cow and an ox for work. The Hadëraj family faced the hard times together with other poor villagers. But, this was a family with a healthy character and it didn't fall on anyone's neck. She had love and respect for people and the village. The Habilas, as a family, have inherited the feelings of patriotism and patriotism. Hadër Habilaj participated as a fighter in Vajza's company in the War of Vlora in 1920. He participated in all the battles, from Kota, to Drashovica, Sherishte and the Koçi Pass. until Vlora was finally freed from the Italian invaders. Hadëri died at the age of 38, leaving his wife Havana and four sons. Years passed and the Habilaj family walked and lived like everyone else with hardship and suffering. The waves of life and the efforts to work and live shaped and educated the children, becoming men before their time. The hard years of the fascist conqueror also fell on the sons of Habilaj. They grew up amidst difficulties and were not given the opportunity to go to school. But even without school they became better than many educated young people. They felt the fascist occupation, that's why they joined the people's struggle for freedom. With this spirit, the four brothers Habilaj, Maliqi, Lelua, Sulua and Koçiu grew up. They were born in the South of Albania and described with their feet all their land and fell in the Northeast, to show that this land was only one.

The family decided to become partisans

Brothers Habilaj and mother Havaja became active participants of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Movement and helped with everything they had. For their activity in the National Liberation Movement, the fascists burned your house during the April 1943 operation. The Habilaj family leaves the village and settles in Hijen e Kuliu, part of the territory of Vajza, in Hametaj. After the operation, the Hibilaj family, as well as the other families of Vajza, lived illegally, settling in the woods, far from the village. Discussions started in the family about the war and the participation of the Habilaj brothers. Everyone wanted partisans to come out. Mother Havaja, who also had the heavy burden of the house, together with Sulo, talked to him separately before, to make way for the two brothers Maliq and Lelo. So they organized, so to speak, a family assembly, where they discussed the benefits and the continuation of the life of the Habilaj family. The few were like family, but the war would take its toll, as mother Hawaii knew that there was no marriage without meat and war required the brave. In the family conversation led by mother Havaja, they decided to go out to the partisans on Mount Maliq and Lelo, leaving the mother in the hut, the older brother Sulejman (Sulo), who had also taken on the role of the father and the house and the brotherhood had to be moved. as well as the younger brother Koçi, who passed away in 1944.

Maliqi was martyred to defend the retreat of the battalion headquarters

Maliq Hadër Habilaj was born in 1924, but he missed many things in his life. He missed toys, the opportunity to be educated, he missed his father, but he never missed his love for the Motherland. He did not recognize his father, but he knew that he had participated in the glorious Battle of Vlora, and had fought bravely and won over the enemy. He grew up with great difficulties, where the regime took everything away from him, but he had the sun and love for the Motherland. In 1939, when the country was invaded by the Italian fascists, Maliqi was 15 years old, a beautiful young age. He understood that the great hour had come, the hour of patriotic duty, that dream that had started in 1920 was still alive... He was young, but he knew that the Motherland was not only inside the village on the slope of Beuni. The homeland lay beyond the mountains. He lined up in the village squad and his rifle roared against the invaders in Vajza, Selenica, Drashovica and elsewhere. His homeland was in captivity and in November 1943, he became a lifelong soldier of his, joining the ranks of Br. I S. The young fighter participated in all the battles of this combat formation, in Vlora, Korça, Berat, Elbasan and Dibër, where he gave the signs of a seasoned fighter. He never complained, never shied away from danger, never feared death. In all battles he was at the forefront. This is how battle after battle went, until July 1944, the brigade encountered the German-Ballisian formations at Fushë Alie in Peshkopia. It was a hot summer day, but the fighters had to go further, because their mission did not end here, but further to the border with Yugoslavia, where the people of Kosovo were occupied. Here they found themselves surrounded by German-ballistic forces and their task was to get out of the encirclement and ensure the retreat of the battalion headquarters. They did not shy away from this difficult task. Even the siege did not scare them, they did not give up. Commissar Myslym Shyri, brave squad commander Maliq Habilaj and other partisans fought and fell like brave men.

Ishte i vogël kur pushtuesit i dogji shtëpinë. Lelo, vëllai i tretë, 15 vjeç, u ndje krenar kur bashkë me Maliqin morën udhën e malit.
