Why are we holding back economically?

Why are we holding back economically?

The new economic year 2021 started with zero profit tax for 110 thousand small businesses. Meanwhile, 46 thousand of them with a turnover of up to 15 million ALL per year, have zero Value Added Tax (VAT) since January 1, 2021. Although the official figure has not been released, according to preliminary data from INSTAT, we did not fall by 6.5 percent as the government predicted the year we just left behind. We are, with consumption somewhat increased in December 2020, somewhere around 6.2 percent of national production less. Or 730 million euros less than 2019. Also from January 1, 2021, eight days ago, white shirts began to be paid 40 percent more every month and the salary of non-university teachers is 15 percent higher. Together they are 65 million euros more this year, from the salaries of these two essential categories for our society, which go to consumption. And consumption brings economic growth. At the November 2020 census there were 2,965 more small businesses than in January, before the pandemic started. Last year we closed two full months like all other countries in the world. In March-April 2020. Poverty increased. Consumption fell steeply. Over 24 thousand small enterprises applied to the National Business Center (NBC) to suspend the activity (transition to passive status), not to pay taxes. But the shutters were not closed en masse. Withstood. As we are resisting even now. November 2020 closed with Value Added Tax (VAT) payments at last year's levels. December 2020 is also the one in these waters. VAT is a passive tax that measures consumption. And the return of VAT to 2019 levels for November-December 2020 means that consumption is recovering. It is slowly returning to normal. Consumption is like temperature in the human body, but with the opposite effect. When the temperature-consumption increases, the economy-man starts to improve, it gets fatter. Economic growth in our country depends on 90 percent of our consumption. Consumption is a lifeline where we are caught, not to end up in the suction mud of the 10 percent deficit of national production. How did we achieve this? We just did not close at all, as in March and April of this year. We continued the activity, with the killer virus between us. Now we have to see how we are going to go this crucial biweekly. These two months: January-February 2021, will be the most difficult we may have ever gone through in our lives. Only March 1997 was the most ominous in our history, how short and extremely wet and cold this winter January-February 2021 will be! We will be forced to stay indoors more and become more infected, unfortunately. We will see other countries more powerful and developed than us, flooded by the river of rescue vaccines and we will have to wait our turn, with the few funds we have. But we will resist. We are wearing masks much better than some other countries much more developed than us. It does not matter that some of us wear masks for fear of being fined by the police patrol that may suddenly pop up in the neighborhood. It matters that we keep them and with them we are protecting ourselves and others. Our economy will not collapse, unlike the few trumpeters of the Apocalypse trumpeting to us, for small partisan interests. We have somewhat more disciplined and responsible public finances in the last two years. The Ministry of Finance brought out the responsibilities and shortcomings of its structures in the internal audit of arrears. I believe in structures that "cause trouble to themselves", not following the ditirambe, in the name of a reforming ideal of our state finances. It was not a bad thing that for 2020 we paid only half of the planned payments for concessions and public-private partnerships, or 60 million euros less. These euros went to increased spending on health and war wages. It would be good to halve the payments of concessions and PPPs and for this year (they are 118 million euros), if we manage to avoid international courts. These are becoming the second nightmare (after Covid) for our economy and everyone's pockets. They are charging us quite a bit so far. Tsunami of international fines - fines amount to 455 million euros fines and sanctions! After all, this year 2021 will be the covid year, at least for the first half of it. We must know not to be hit by falling consumption, by the artificial party tension of the approaching elections of April 25, 2021. We must make our political parties aware and accountable in their behavior after the night of April 25. In interpreting the election results, not to make Trump the situation. It is imperative that we do not lose as much as we have lost so far in the economy, from the fierce power rivalry of our irresponsible political parties. from the artificial party tension of the approaching elections of April 25, 2021.
