Albania must punish the old political elite as Kosovo did

Written by Skënder Sadri KAPITI 2 Prill 2022

Can the super-corruption of the Rama government be punished by a person declared "non grata" for corruption ?! Punishment of the corruption of the super-corrupt government of Edi Rama means its removal and punishment by free and democratic vote of Albanian voters. Here it is not worth it to prove the great corruption of the super-corrupt government of Edi Rama, as its corruption has come to the surface and has paralyzed and bankrupted the state, economy, democracy, justice and society. Corruption is so rampant that it has nowhere to go and precipitate. But the problem is how to save the state and society from the clutches of this corruption. In a democracy, this is done by democratic law, its punishment and expulsion by vote from power, its misgovernment and corruption. But corruption is not fought with corruption. If it is claimed that democracy removes one party of the corrupt and brings to power another party of the corrupt then this is no longer democracy but corruption - thieves. This is what happened in Albania during the 30 years of transition, because a political system of corruption was mounted that has only recycled and gone unpunished. In a democracy, the alternative that first promises to fight corruption always wins, because corruption is the greatest enemy and threat to the democratic system. The transition system in Albania was captured by a bad political elite which still continues today. And intentionally or unintentionally the Rama government can not overthrow an opposition which has been captured and taken hostage by an individual who has been declared "non-grata" by the State Department. According to the State Department, in his capacity as prime minister in particular, Berisha “became involved in corrupt acts, such as misappropriation of public funds and interference in public processes, including the use of his power for personal gain and to enrich political allies. "and his family members at the expense of the Albanian public's trust in government institutions and public officials," the DASH statement said. So could an opposition led by the former prime minister come to power, and as such would the voter vote for such an opposition, and would western democracy accept cooperation with a government led by a proclaimed "non grata" ?! If the opposition is not able to articulate and accumulate popular discontent against the regime of Edi Rama; if the opposition is unable to divide and punish corruption within it; if the opposition is not able to create hope for change as well as trust in the international factor, it can not come to power. In Kosovo, Kurti and Osmani won because they and their alternative was anti-corruption and the public interest against crime, corruption, betrayal and theft. And that is why democracy and the Kosovar electorate entrusted them with governance and power. Albania should take this as an example.
