Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha during the press conference he held today denied that there is a rift between him and President Ilir Meta.
Berisha commented on the signing of Meta's decree for Bajram Begaj, for which the former prime minister seems to have changed his position.
He says that there is no letter in the Constitution that prohibits the signing of decrees abroad.
"There is no flaw. The Constitution of Albania, in letter, does not prohibit the signing of decrees abroad. But cases I know do not occur. Now to tell the truth, the President might not have signed the fourth round, but he could not burn the fifth. He had to exercise his Constitutional duty. Once other mechanisms intervene.
He could not but exercise the Constitutional obligation of degradation, of the release of the Chief of General Staff. It has never happened that you take an active military man and make him President, only in the case of the junta. "The president is obliged to fulfill his constitutional obligations," Berisha said.
