Bardhi and Tabaku meeting with the representatives of the Council of Europe, the talks are clarified

The deputy of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, and the Chairperson of the Integration Commission, Jorida Tabaku, met today with the co-rapporteurs of the Council of Europe for Albania. In last year's report, it was emphasized that the conflict in DP is harming the interest of the country, because the opposition was not functional and was not playing its indisputable role in a democracy.

In the message distributed for the meeting, Bardhi emphasizes that he has shared the concern for the need to strengthen the fight against corruption, the completion of the Electoral Reform in order to guarantee free and fair elections, the strengthening of parliamentary mechanisms for the accountability of the Government, and the initiative taken to make the opposition in Parliament functional.

"We welcomed today the rapporteurs for Albania in the Council of Europe, Mr. Asim Mollazada and Mr. Jonut Stroe, with whom you shared your concern about the need to strengthen the fight against corruption, the completion of the Electoral Reform in order to guarantee free and fair elections, as well as the strengthening of parliamentary mechanisms for Government accountability.

We thanked them for their position in the precursor report, which emphasized that all democracies need a well-functioning opposition that provides a proper system of checks and balances on power. In response to their call in the October 2022 report for the Democratic Party to overcome internal disputes and play its important role in the governance of the country, involving all parties, I informed them of efforts to make the opposition functional in Parliament and to overcome the internal party conflict, through the construction of a common opposition agenda." - writes Bardhi.
