"Depressing loss in our strongholds"/ Resurgence after the elections, Tabaku reveals the DP's plans: Here's how it can transform the country

In an interview for Panorama TV, the Vice-President of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, commented on the opposition's defeat in the local elections of May 14, where she said that the voting results showed that the Democratic Party is no longer so big and strong.

Tabaku emphasized that the division of the opposition led to a losing result in the strongholds of the Democratic Party.

So asked about the fact that a new leadership is required in DP and whether former Prime Minister Sali Berisha can contribute to the leadership levels, Tabaku said that the opposition should unite and be a model of hope for the citizens, but should not walk with the idea of ??holding the chair.

Why did the opposition get such a poor result in the local elections?

There are many reasons in fact, but I believe it is related to many factors and to us. The elections of May 14 showed that PD is no longer big and strong, it showed that we did not have an alternative, people rejected us and did not vote. The elections had persistent problems that ODIHR has made clear, and the decline in the number of voters influenced this ongoing result. The constant quarrel between us, resulted in this reflection, PD has everything to be the modern party, but our offer and pressures, brought this result. I have seen the result in the bastion of PD very depressing.

Was the result influenced by the candidates or the supporting forces?

We had to unite against the adversary and the union needed a unique candidate. PD has not had a better candidate than Igli Cara in Durrës, and he did not win in the past because he did not run with the PD logo. It was unforgivable that many votes were directed to a party that is not democratic, so we insisted on unique candidates.

Need a new driving spirit?

Sigurisht që duhet një frymë të re drejtimi, kemi 10 vite që duam të japim një mesazh ndryshe. PD nuk mund të jetë një parti elektorale, jo populiste, të ketë program modern dhe ti flasë të gjithë shtresave. Nuk ka forcë politike që mund ta transformojë Shqipërinë, më mirë se PD. Por duhet të rregullohemi dhe ne. Duhet të kemi një grup të rinj njerëzish, dhe jo numrit 1. Ky bashkimi që flasim ne nuk është mekanik, por proces. Ne duhet të kemi një grup njerëzish që nuk kanë interesin e karriges dhe personales, por vetëm Partinë Demokratike. Duhet të ndalojë sulmi i brendshëm dhe t’i flasim njerëzit për shqetësimet që kanë, njerëzit kanë totalisht problemet e tyre dhe kërkojnë rikthimin e shpresës në PD. Kushdo duhet të japë kontributin e tij në PD, të ndërtojë një parti më të hapur dhe ta shohë si mund ta ringrerë atë.

You are a leader when you lead but also when you know how to retreat. We have all reached a political maturity and we tell you things as they are. The result of May 14 should make us all reflect.
