Journalists protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, the reporters "stitch" their mouths and call on Rama to give up "re-education"

Journalists protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, the reporters

Journalists went out yesterday in protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, fixed at 19:00, just as they warned. All had covered their mouths with black glue, as a message that they were being denied the right to speak. Gathered in front of the Prime Minister's Office with placards in their hands, they asked the number one of the majority, Edi Rama, to give up the "punitive" measures he takes against journalists who ask him questions he doesn't like. According to them, a massive reaction is needed so that journalists do not activate "self-censorship". "The recent cases where the prime minister has led two of our colleagues to re-education, we do not want it to return as a concept (re-education). The prime minister is not the one who evaluates the journalists' questions. Such cases in the world occur in countries that have autocratic tendencies. Year after year we see that the freedom of the media loses places. Events are daily. The Prime Minister should give up these methods. Where are we going like this? This turns self-censorship, this is more dangerous than censorship," declared a journalist.

 "Safe Journalists" protects journalists

Meanwhile, the Safe Journalists network, which operates in Pristina, Skopje, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Belgrade, Podgorica and Tirana, has reacted regarding the attitude that Edi Rama took towards A2CNN journalist Klevin Muka. In a statement, the network expresses concern that any attack on journalists is an attack on the public interest, democracy and the rights of all citizens. The representative of the Network of Safe Journalists in Albania, Blerjana Bino, explained that it is the second time that Rama acts in this way with journalists during press conferences when he does not like the question. "The prime minister denied the journalist the right to receive an adequate answer to a question of public interest. Kelvin's question, if answered, would had left Minister Xhaçka and the Prime Minister a window to shed light on the issue of conflict of interest and would give the public more transparency on the matter in question. Instead, once again, the prime minister chose arrogance over transparency and closing the door to journalists, especially the good ones", she declared on this occasion. Also, Bino expressed concern about the lack of solidarity of journalists during the conference. "However, now the media community and independent organizations and CSOs are rallying behind Klevin in an effort to support critical and quality independent journalism. We definitely need more solidarity among journalists in Albania and broader alliances for media freedom", Bino underlined. Any attack on journalists is an attack on the public interest,

Përplasjet e Ramës me gazetarët
