Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, invited to the show 'Opinion' tonight, stated that if he were still in charge of the state, Albania's negotiations with the EU would have been opened.
Berisha said that in 2013, he left power after losing the elections.
According to Berisha, he could have used the state to manipulate the votes, but he chose not to do so.
Berisha: You are talking to a former prime minister. If a former prime minister decides not to hand over power, it is difficult to take power away from him. Power deals with elections. A prime minister should never decide to stay in power at any cost. Of course in 2013 I left power myself. In 2009 Edi Rama, in order not to run in the elections, brought here the Glover lady who was non-grata. He made it a condition that if I did not accept him as an observer, he would boycott the elections. I made a decision in which I excluded the state from the campaign. Checkers Glover monitored that decision.
Question: What were the reasons for leaving power?
Berisha: I voted as much as I voted. I never thought I would stay in power if I did not win the election. If the prime minister decides to use the state for campaigning. If Sali Berisha were in power, negotiations would have been open for a long time. I would apply the terms and criteria.
