The President for the Voice of America: The "Beleri" issue is not up to me, but to justice

The President of the Republic Bajram Begaj has declared that the case of Fredi Beleri, who is in prison for buying votes, belongs to justice.

In an interview for the Voice of America, the Head of State said that after justice speaks, other actions can be taken.

Begaj: Albania's relations with Greece are relations of strategic partnership and are based on the best values. I received the Prime Minister of Greece in my office, we discussed old and new issues. The matter in question is not in the hands of the president, but it has to do with justice and let justice do its job. When justice speaks then we can act. I think that justice in Albania after the reform is on the right track and is independent.

The parties have agreed to send the case to The Hague, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked you for authorization to start negotiations, you have said that you are examining the request. Is there something wrong?

Begaj: The evaluation of the request made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not a matter of time, but it should be based on some legal and constitutional requirements that the request in question must meet. The president has a constitutional obligation for every negotiation and international agreement. When I make the right decision I will let the public and you know.

Begaj: Yes, we have set up a group of experts who are looking and working to reach a version of the authorization in full compliance with the decision of the constitutional court.
