Ambassador Hill's message to Kosovo and Serbia: the US supports 100 percent the Franco-German proposal, it must be taken very seriously

The Ambassador of the United States of America to Serbia, Christopher Hill, yesterday gave Serbia and Kosovo a very clear message about the Franco-German proposal. He told reporters in Belgrade that this proposal should be taken very seriously by both parties. He emphasized that as far as the USA and the EU are concerned, the European proposal is the right path to follow to solve the problem between Kosovo and Serbia. "That's why you need to seriously consider this proposal and think about ways to pass it and work on it," Hill said. "Everyone is trying to find a solution so that we can once again see the establishment of peace and positive situations in the region. The US 100 percent supports the EU proposal." Hill, was asked by journalists how realistic it is for the EU to impose sanctions on Serbia if Belgrade does not accept the new European proposal for the solution of the Kosovo issue, the American diplomat emphasized that "he is not in a position to speak". "I am not able to talk about sanctions. The EU is very serious when it comes to the sanctions imposed against Russia in which everyone participates, although it is not easy for them," he added. "The sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia were put in place to stop the horrific and illegal aggression against its neighbour, Ukraine." Kosovo and Serbia, with the mediation of the EU and the support of the USA, have been in negotiations for the normalization of relations since 2011. They have reached dozens of agreements, but the implementation of most of them on the ground has stalled.
