What is happening? Chaos on the streets of the capital, about 100 private buses block the roads

About 100 buses belonging to private transport associations blocked all the intersections of Skopje again on Monday, causing chaos on the streets of the North Macedonian capital.

The transporters are demanding to be paid the debt of about two million euros, which, as they say, is owed to them by the Public Transport Company, namely the Municipality of Skopje.

This is the second blockade in a week, with transporters saying it could escalate with doubling the number of buses - around 200 - to jam the city.

"The blockades are a warning for the awareness of the institutions that we will not give up our demands. We have not received salaries for four months. The condition of the drivers is serious as they support their families from this job. The leaders of Skopje are making fun of our feelings, but we will not allow this", said Lenin Jovanovski, chairman of the association of private transporters "Sloboda Prevoz".

The blocking of the crossroads has caused dissatisfaction among the citizens, who have been unable to perform their daily duties.

From the transporters' association, they say that they understand the citizens' revolt, but they ask for their understanding, since this form of protest, according to them, is the only way to realize their demands.

“Qytetarët nuk mund të na kritikojnë neve, duhet ta kritikojnë burimin e këtij problemi, që është kryetarja e Shkupit, e cila e ka lejuar këtë gjendje. Qytetarët nuk duhet të lejojnë që të kenë një kryetare të tillë që nuk i intereson – interesi i tyre”, tha Jovanovski.

Përplasjet mes transportuesve privatë dhe Komunës së Shkupit kanë nisur tash e një kohë për shkak të akuzave për shpërdorim të fondeve.

Por, kryetarja e Shkupit, Danella Arsovska, tha se problemi qëndron te transportuesit, respektivisht shoqata, e cila sipas saj nuk ka dorëzuar asnjë dokumentacion mbi paratë e shpenzuar apo fatura mbi transportin e kryer.

Arsovska pretendon se që nga viti 2017 deri në vitin 2022 kjo shoqatë nuk ka raportuar asnjë biletë të shitur në autobusët që lëvizin në linjat e qytetit.

“Bëhet fjalë për miliona para të qytetarëve që dikush i ka futur në xhep”, ka deklaruar ajo.

Transportuesit privatë që qarkullojnë në rrugët e Shkupit nuk marrin para të gatshme nga pasagjerët, pasi çdo biletë regjistrohet në sistemin elektronik që është i lidhur me institucionet e Komunës së Shkupit.

Ajo tha se kontrata me transportuesit privatë është anuluar dhe se nuk tërhiqet nga vendimi, teksa zgjidhjen e problemit e sheh në shpalljen e konkursit ku “mund të marrin pjesë të gjithë transportuesit në mënyrë individuale”.

Por shoqata konkursin e vlerëson të jashtëligjshëm dhe përpjekje të kryetares së Shkupit për përçarjen e tyre.
