"Citizens would live ten times better if we impose sanctions on Russia" / "Populist statement", Serbian experts come out against Vuçiç, give the alarm for ...

"Citizens would live ten times better if we impose sanctions on

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuçi., Said days ago that Serbs dp to live ten times better if we impose sanctions on Russia.

Regarding the statement of the Serbian leader, the local media Danas, has received the opinion of economic experts.

They claim that this is a political and populist rhetoric without a real analysis of the consequences and benefits that we would have if we followed the EU position.

"It is a very controversial and strange statement. First, it is incorrect that we would live ten times better, because if so, why has not imposed sanctions so far. This is another in a series of his populist statements that seem to be preparing the people for the imposition of sanctions. Fortunately, it is true, but unfortunately it is another in a series of nonsensical statements to maintain some political appreciation and to prepare the people for the imposition of sanctions that will inevitably follow as soon as possible. "Whether he declares them himself or waits for the formation of a new government will depend on external pressure," said Zeljko Veselinovic, chairman of the Sloga Union.

But, the president claims that the consequences of the stay that the state has respected for 80 days are great and that the price we pay for this is great.

"We basically do not have access to the capital market. "I am not announcing the imposition of sanctions, we will fight as much as we can to maintain our policy," Vucic said.

Dusko Bodroza, a professor at the Belgrade Academy of Banks, confirms that Serbia has no access to the capital market because in recent treasury bill auctions, from which the state actually borrows, there has been less interest from investors than bids.

"It's still a consequence of the wider economic climate, although it can be linked to politics. From an economic point of view, the situation in the capital market is a consequence of a very precarious situation globally, but also of a very low interest rate with which we tried to continue borrowing. "Investors simply do not agree with those conditions at the moment," says Bodroza.

He points out that this could affect daily life, investments are expected to slow down, as the state will have less access to new resources and funds on the one hand and borrowing will be more expensive, which will slow down the arrival of funds for further growth and development of the economy.
