The UK will send additional troops to the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, at the request of the latter, following the deadly attack on the Kosovo Police in the north of the country last week.

Britain's Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that it will move around 200 additional troops to its contingent in Kosovo, which already has 400 British soldiers, in the coming days.

"This unit of the British army will join the NATO force in Kosovo, following a specific request from the Supreme Commander of the Alliance for Europe, SACEUR, American General Chris Cavoli", the announcement states.

NATO's decision to increase peacekeeping troops in Kosovo comes a week after the Kosovo Police was attacked by a Serbian armed group in the village of Banjské, in the municipality of Zveçan on September 24, where Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed.

The Serbian attackers took refuge in the monastery of the village, after ambushing a police patrol, from where they continued the confrontation with the police, and as a result three of them were killed.

Kosovo police found and confiscated an extraordinary arsenal of weapons in and around Banjska in the days following the attack.

On Sunday afternoon, Kosovo's Interior Minister Xelal Sve?la said his country had collected evidence proving that Serbia tried to annex northern Kosovo and that the attackers had been preparing for a long time in Serbian military bases inside Serbia. .

He said during a media conference on Sunday south of Mitrovica that over 90 people participated in the attack against the Kosovo Police.
