Tensions in the Balkans, Serbia reveals that 4 countries have withdrawn recognition of Kosovo after the application in the CoE, US strikes Vuçiiç, that is why France has come out against Kurti

Kosovo's formal application to the Council of Europe has not been welcomed in Belgrade. This move has caused tension in the Balkans, as Serbia will launch a major diplomatic action aimed at withdrawing the recognition of Kosovo by several countries. The United States has indirectly supported Kosovo's application to the CoE, while France has opposed it, warning of even greater divisions in the region. "Four countries have already withdrawn their recognition of Kosovo," said Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic. The Minister also stressed that Serbia is facing great pressures in the field of foreign policy. "We have received information that at least two major countries are working on logistical support for Pristina for new recognitions, but also in the campaign to withdraw recognitions," he said.
US supports Kosovo's application to CoE
President Aleksandar Vucic stated that Pristina, with this step, has violated the Washington agreement. Responding to the Serbian president, the US State Department said that Kosovo and Serbia are sovereign states, which have the right to choose their own foreign policy priorities. In September 2020, the two countries signed an agreement to normalize economic relations, known as the Washington Agreement, under which Kosovo received a one-year moratorium on its efforts to join international organizations, while Serbia has agreed on a moratorium, also one year, on its campaign against the recognition of Kosovo as a state. But the deadline for this commitment has already expired.
France against, Germany pro
The French Ambassador to Serbia, Pierre Koshar, considers that submitting the application for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe is a unilateral decision and added that France does not support unilateral moves. He stressed that the priority is the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Ambassador Koshar stressed that the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue must urgently be given a new dynamic. "We support the efforts of Miroslav Lajcak, we support the invitation of Germany for the Serbian president and prime minister of Kosovo. The candidacy for the Council of Europe is a unilateral decision and we do not support those decisions and consider dialogue a priority. The issue of missing persons is also a priority topic. "These are priorities for us," said Koshar. He stressed that the Pristina government does not have the support of France in submitting its candidacy to the Council of Europe, because unilateral moves could lead to rising tensions. "We understand Kosovo's aspirations to join the European institutions and we welcome the fact that they are aligned with European positions regarding Ukraine. "However, unilateral movements do not make things easier and can lead to increased tensions," he said. Asked if France will vote for Kosovo's entry into the Council of Europe, the ambassador said that at the moment the question has not been raised, because the accession process takes time and requires the opinion of the Parliamentary Assembly and then the reconsideration of the candidacy. "France's priority is to do everything, together with our European partners, especially Germany, to continue the dialogue on a solid basis and this is what is urgent, so we believe that unilateral moves are not useful and can stifle an already complex process, which has not progressed much in recent months ", said Koshar . But the German ambassador in Pristina, Jorn Rohde, unlike France, has supported Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe. Rohde welcomes Kosovo's application, adding that Germany is looking forward to seeing Kosovo part of the CoE. "We look forward to seeing Kosovo as part of the Council of Europe families working together to promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law. Kosovo belongs to the Council of Europe. "All the best for the membership process", says Rohde. "therefore we believe that unilateral moves are not helpful and could stifle an already complex process, which has not progressed much in recent months," Koshar said.
