The American professor Edward Joseph has said that the key to solving the issue between Kosovo and Serbia lies in four EU states, which are also members of NATO, which do not recognize Kosovo.
Joseph said in an interview for "Al Jazeera" that if Spain, Slovakia, Romania and Greece recognize Kosovo, then the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, would no longer have such a strong lever in his hands. Joseph also said that if Ukraine recognizes Kosovo, it would be a catalyst.
"The problem comes within the EU. It is the fact that four NATO countries, which are also part of the EU, such as Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain, do not recognize Kosovo. And with the conditions they have for recognition, after Serbia recognizes Kosovo, this gives Vucic all the leverage, and he is not interested in solving the issue. He is constantly violating the agreement that was made in March, which is a form of de facto recognition, but he does not want to not implement it", said Joseph.
Joseph has said that the situation on Friday in the north is serious.
