6.2 magnitude earthquake shakes Greece, renowned Turkish seismologist warns
Written by SOT.COM.AL 3 Mars 2021
The midday earthquake in Greece has caused a great deal of concern to Turkish seismologists as there is evidence that the whole region is already under a relatively strong "earthquake storm".
Turkish seismologist Prof. Dr. Hasan Sozbilir stressed that our entire region has already begun to face in a short time earthquakes that are intensity 6 or above 6 on the Richter scale and this is by no means accidental.
According to him, the region is under great pressure and this is the reason why there are strong earthquakes. He mentioned the Izmir earthquake a few months ago that caused more than 50 casualties, while today's earthquake in Larissa is part of this series of tremors.
"For several months now, the area has been facing strong earthquakes. "Initially the tectonic plates were broken on the island of Samos (opposite Izmir), now in Larissa, and it is very likely that in the region we will face earthquakes of this force again in the coming months," he said.
Fortunately, today's earthquake in Larissa did not cause any casualties, although the tremors were strong and were felt in Albania as well.
