European Union pressure on Serbia is increasing, due to Belgrade's refusal to support sanctions against Russia. The countries of the European Union are expected to repeat at the meeting of the General Affairs Council their commitment to the enlargement process and the stabilization-association process with the countries of the Western Balkans. In a draft of conclusions prepared by the Slovenian Presidency of the EU for this meeting, which will be held next week in Brussels, the Progress Reports that the European Union has approved and published for these countries are taken into account.

The EU pressures Serbia

Negotiations will not move forward for Serbia

It is also the European diplomats themselves who have expressed that they cannot accept that Serbia will be rewarded with the continuation of the EU membership process as if nothing had happened. "There will be no opening or closing of any new chapter until Serbia proves that it really, sincerely and unequivocally wants to belong to our family and share the same values," they said. Serbia has opened four negotiation chapters dealing with climate change and the environment, energy, transport policy and trans-European infrastructure networks. But today the negotiation process is frozen until Serbia accepts the sanctions against Russia. From Serbia, the EU countries also expect that it will not allow the circumvention of sanctions against Russia through its territory. Serbia has been negotiating EU membership for years, but at the same time it continues to cooperate with Russia in several fields, the most important of which is the field of defense. The European Union does not intend to take formal steps to suspend membership negotiations with Serbia, but is aware that negotiations are not realistically likely to continue until Serbia joins Western sanctions against Russia. Bosnja-Hercegovina  dhe statusi i kandidatit

Nga ana tjetër, një vend tjetër që është një pikëpyetje për Bashkimin Evropian është dhe Bosnja Hercegovina. Dilema më e madhe është nëse do t’i jepet statusi kandidat me kusht apo jo? Komisioni Evropian ka propozuar që Bosnje-Hercegovinës t’i jepet statusi i vendit kandidat për anëtarësim në Bashkimin Evropian, mirëpo me disa kushte. Në raportin e Komisionit Evropian për këtë vit Bosnja nuk ka shënuar përparim në fushat kyçe. Megjithatë disa vende me influence si Holanda nuk janë dakord për këtë vendim ndaj Bosnje-Hercogovines. Sipas tyre dhënia e statusit të kandidatit në rrethana të tilla do të ishte kundërproduktive dhe do të nënkuptonte heqjen dorë nga politika e kushtëzimit që BE-ja mbrojti në politikën e zgjerimit. Por këtë vit fokusi kryesor i kushteve është qëndrimi që mbajnë vendet kandidate ndaj agresionit Rus kundër Ukrainës. Si rrjedhoje në këtë rast shigjetat drejtohen nga Serbia.
