Lunch sleep strengthens the mind, is a conclusion reached by a study, which observed 2,200 people in China.

According to the United Press International (UPI), scientists at the Mental Health Center in Shanghai have conducted research to examine the effects of lunch sleep on the mind. As part of the research, 2,200 people were observed in Beijing, Shanghai and Xian.

It was observed that 1,520 participants slept less than 2 hours at noon, while 680 stayed awake. Participants then underwent tests of mental ability such as visual-spatial skills, short-term memory, duration of attention, problem solving, spatial awareness, and verbal fluency.

The leader of the research team, Dr. Lin Sun, reported that there were significant differences in memory and verbal fluency skills of those who slept at noon compared to those who did not sleep. While Dr. Gayatri Devi, a neurologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, said healthy sleep protects people from dementia, a disease that affects memory, communication and thinking.
