"Eat vegetables if you want to live longer" / The latest 12-year study just 'busted' this myth. Here is the truth
Written by SOT.COM.AL 9 Gusht 2022
The daily consumption of vegetables has always, at least in recent decades, been associated with a healthy life, as a good practice, almost a shield against various diseases that appear especially after a certain age.
But according to a 12-year study by one of the most prestigious universities in the world, Oxford, consuming vegetables does not seem to bring significant benefits compared to others. Or at least, not as a dominant factor.
The study included almost 400,000 Britons with an average age of 56. The participants were asked the amount of vegetables consumed, fresh and cooked, and then the data was compared with the heart diseases that appeared over the years.
In the 12 years of the study, about 18,000 people of the total sample have suffered serious heart diseases, such as heart attack or stroke. The results were somewhat surprising.
The group that consumed the most fresh vegetables was 15% less likely to get sick than the group that consumed little or none.
But meanwhile, the group of those who consumed boiled vegetables on a daily basis had negligible differences with those who consumed them less.
Not only that, but the advantage that consumers of fresh vegetables had was greatly reduced when factors such as wealth, lifestyle and others were taken into account.
Top Albania Radio writes that according to the researchers, the study shows that the real connection between the consumption of vegetables and health comes from the fact that people who use vegetables in their day pay more attention to their physical well-being in other daily life dynamics. .
The authors of the study themselves claim that a balanced diet and a controlled weight remain an important part of health and the limitation of some serious diseases.
