"These results are surprising" / Researcher reveals what happens to your body if you eat two spoons of honey every day

"These results are surprising" / Researcher reveals what happens to

Honey can make almost any dish more delicious, from baked chicken and fish to bread and cakes. New research has shown that honey can also improve blood sugar and cholesterol levels, although some types may be better than others, reports Eat This.

Researchers from the University of Toronto, whose study results were recently published in Nutrition Review, set out to determine what effect honey might have on cardiometabolic risk factors.

The researchers focused on 18 controlled trials involving more than 1,100 participants and lasting two months. The results showed that honey consumption has a positive effect on cardiometabolic health, such as lowering blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

In participants who consumed an average of two tablespoons of honey each day, it was observed that raw and floral honey was the cause of many health benefits. On the other hand, processed honey was not as effective.

"These results are surprising because honey is about 80 percent sugar, so it might not make sense that something so sweet would lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. But honey is also a complex composition of sugars, proteins, organic acids and other common and rare. Bioactive compounds that are most likely to have health benefits," explains Tauseef Khan, researcher of the aforementioned study and research associate of nutritional sciences at the University of Toronto.
