If you notice this symptom, go to the doctor immediately, about 70% of people have felt it

Heart attacks are notorious for appearing suddenly, making them one of the deadliest conditions in the world. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the heart suddenly stops. It causes a tsunami of symptoms, but there is evidence that warning signs can appear in the months before an impact. According to a study, women may experience unusual fatigue, sleep disturbances and shortness of breath a month before a heart attack.
The first symptom that signals a heart attack is chest pain, similar to what we feel when we have a leg cramp during exercise. Since the heart is responsible for pumping blood to the rest of the body, a heart attack immediately causes a lack of oxygen throughout the body.
A survey published in the journal Circulation collected information from more than 500 women who had and survived a heart attack to compare their symptoms. 95 percent of them said they had noticed unusual body changes a month ago. The most common problems in the weeks before the heart attack were fatigue and sleep disturbances.
Interestingly, research has shown that fewer women than men experience chest pain during a heart attack. On the other hand, women were more likely to experience shortness of breath.
In 2019, Harvard Health published a list of the 12 most common symptoms reported by women in the month before a heart attack:
unusual fatigue (71 percent)
sleep disorder (48 percent)
shortness of breath (42 percent)
poor digestion (39 percent)
anxiety (36 percent)
fast heart rate (27 percent)
weak/heavy hands (25 percent)
changes in thinking or memory (24 percent)
change in vision (23 percent)
loss of appetite (22 percent)
tingling in hands/arms (22 percent)
difficulty breathing at night (19 percent)
One of the reasons why men and women may experience different heart attack symptoms is that men are more likely to suffer from plaque buildup in the larger arteries that supply blood to the heart. Women, on the other hand, are more susceptible to plaque build-up in the heart's smaller arteries, known as microvasculature.
It is well known that heart attacks are the result of lifestyle habits that progressively damage the circulatory system. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, physical activity, and what you eat and drink.
"Other potentially modifiable risk factors include air, noise, stress and infection, although these are not easily controlled by the individual," according to Harvard School of Public Health TH Chan (HSPH).
All these factors affect several physiological aspects of health such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels and blood sugar. While having one or two of these risk factors won't necessarily result in a heart attack, the more risk factors you have, the higher the risk, HSPH warns.
